Emma Raducanu, the Slovenia head coach, has been fired after her failure to reach the 2018 Fed Cup, despite beating top-ranked European player Marina Pichler on Sunday.

Slovenia’s Fed Cup team captain announced her resignation on Sunday after Raducanu’s 6-4, 6-3 win over Pichler in Styria, adding that she had been told of the decision by her newly appointed chief executive on Friday.

“Emma had a very fine career at Tennis Slovenia and she reached a great position for a coach,” said Sowki Stavrudic, who replaces Magdalena Slindl as CEO of the national team after she stepped down last month.

The 27-year-old Raducanu had played no part in Slovenia’s Fed Cup qualifiers in July, sitting out the biennial competition after transferring from the country’s Fed Cup team to the squad managed by Samantha Murray.

“The Federation was prepared to honour the agreement and not let the final result go against us,” Stavrudic said. “As of today, I am happy that we have been able to part with our partners on a pleasant note.”
