Hurricane Floyd Spares Kentucky Home's Smoking Barbecue; Makes It Home Again

There was no water, power or gas in his neighborhood, so Will Craig decided to create his own — and the results speak for themselves.

Craig set up an outdoor barbecue in Caledonia, Kentucky, just in time for Father’s Day — and to keep the extra barbecue cooking over the fireplace in his damaged home.

“I was kind of still trying to deal with the idea of the house being completely destroyed,” Craig told NewsChannel 5 in Kentucky. “I kind of wanted something to make the day different.”

Because he was out of town, his son and daughter lived at the location for the duration of the day, making it a family affair.

Though Craig lost his car, electronics and home, he didn’t lose the memories of his family.

“It’s something to take out of a place that’s known for tornadoes,” Craig said. “This is a place for kids to play. A playground, you know, to help kids remember to come here with their parents to play and rebuild the way we can.”
