Italian Government & Russia Welcome Trump Visitors to ‘The Old World’

Despite continuing issues with trade, President Trump’s administration is considering announcing a new path to U.S. passport for countries that have been excluded from access for travelers. But it seems many countries are already ready to welcome those millions who will benefit from allowing them to travel to the United States. Italy has tweeted a video of itself welcoming travelers on Twitter, in a reworked version of its usual, traditional greeting of the tourists (“Welcome to the old world,” in the case of Italy). On Saturday evening, Russia celebrated tourism with a Twitter video of the city of St. Petersburg. During the turmoil of his first year in office, Mr. Trump’s first attempt to formally scrap the longstanding Visa Waiver Program led to a surge in U.S. tourism to the country. After Mr. Trump scrapped that effort, travel from the European Union to the United States was spiking up to 26 percent after the move was made, according to the Atlantic. If Mr. Trump officially moves forward with the new proposal, the countries likely to be considered most affected are those like Germany that have been the most vocal supporters of comprehensive immigration and refugee law reform.
