A missing woman has been located dead after falling overboard from a Carnival cruise ship in the Bahamas, according to reports.

The 74-year-old cabin attendant was not wearing a life vest and was a heavy fall from the Caribbean Princess liner, maritime authorities said.

Police issued an international arrest warrant for the woman.

An AFP news agency photographer took photos of what appeared to be a body floating in the ocean behind the ship.

An unnamed Carnival spokeswoman told AFP the cruise, which was due to finish in Baltimore on Tuesday, was out of service and was suspended following the incident.

Carnival director of security Seth Meyer told the AFP news agency that the life vest had not been issued to the woman.

The life vest is usually issued to crew members or to members of the public.

The woman is understood to have gone overboard on Sunday night when the boat was returning to port in Freeport after a cruise to the Bahamas.

It is the second time this year a passenger has fallen overboard from a Carnival cruise liner. In March, a 74-year-old woman’s body was found in the water about four miles from shore.

Cruise mishaps often occur at sea when passengers fail to wear life jackets.
